What is a Trattoria? Less formal than a ristorante but more stately than an osteria, the word stems from “Trattore” -an innkeeper or a small restaurant owner- and derives from the old French verb traitier, “to treat”. Trattoria enters the English language in 1832 to refer to the speciality Italian food that the Trattore would typically offer up; our own Cucina Italiana takes its history seriously and the “treats” of the trattoria tradition even more so.
Overlooking leafy Newington Green, Trattoria N16 is an authentic, Italian eatery and bar that takes pride in its approach to home cooked, regional Italian cuisine. If you are looking for artisanal pizza, fresh pasta, charcuterie -or a wine list that runs from Lombardy to Abruzzo, Sicily, Lazio and beyond- Trattoria’s embrace of culinary culture comes from the heart. Our menu is faithful to the regional specialities of Calabrian, Neapolitan and Sicilian cooking and our Cucina and Pizzeria both utilize local produce, first-hand experience and premier Italian ingredients to offer up a unique and genuine take on Italian staples and delicacies alike. Our commitment to culinary authenticity -and appreciation an Italian cooking both rustic and modern- has guaranteed the Trattoria’s status as a local favorite over the course of its 10 years of service. The atmosphere of Southern Europe sits at every table, the heel of Italy on every foot, the “treats” of a traditional trattoria on every plate.
